Welcome to Learn to Skate USA, proudly hosted by Smoky Mountain Skating Academy in Knoxville, TN! Whether you’re stepping onto the ice for the first time, refining your skating skills for hockey, or dreaming of becoming a figure skating star, our program is for everyone who wants to excel on the ice.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Before signing up for a Learn to Skate group class at Cool Sports, all skaters must register with Learn to Skate USA through U.S. Figure Skating. Membership is $18.50 annually and runs from July 1 to June 30.

Kick off the spring season on the right skate with Knoxville’s #1 Learn to Skate program! Whether you’re stepping onto the ice for the first time or advancing your skills, our 8-week Learn to Skate program is designed to build confidence, improve technique, and have fun in a supportive environment.

Duration: 8 weeks
Structure: Each session includes a 30-minute group lesson followed by 30 minutes of practice time.

Group Classes for All Ages and Skill Levels
Snowplow Sam (Ages 3–5)
Introduce your little ones to the joy of ice skating in a safe, fun, and supportive environment. These classes focus on basic balance, coordination, and having fun on the ice.
Basics (Ages 6–12)
Perfect for school-aged kids, this class develops core skating skills like forward and backward skating, stopping, and turning. Ideal for beginners or those looking to sharpen their technique for hockey or recreational skating.
Teen/Adult (Ages 13 & Older)
It’s never too late to learn! This program is designed for teens and adults who are either brand new to skating or want to improve their skills for fitness, hockey, or figure skating.

Booster Lessons
Additional Lesson Options
Booster lessons are mini private lessons designed to give a “boost” with one-on-one instruction. These lessons are scheduled during public or freestyle sessions and lessons can be used to prepare for evaluations or to work on a maneuver that skaters may be struggling with. The lessons can also be used to learn new maneuvers or to get an idea of what private lessons are all about. You can speak to a coach of your choice directly to set up a lesson or contact our director to be paired with a coach.
